ep.3 The First Pitch Insufficiency
时长:00:19:37 / 首播:2014-09-29
Howard is asked to throw the first pitch at a baseball game for the LA Angels of Anaheim to celebrate Space Day as an astronaut. Howard is pleased but then shocked at the distance of 60 feet he would have to throw the ball. Practicing with the help of Bernadette and Raj does not improve Howard's throwing arm. Michael Massimino says he should not do it, because even if he threw well nobody would care and if he throws badly he will look like an idiot. At the game Howard decides to use a prototype of the Mars rover to pitch the ball. But it moves extremely slowly across the grass to deliver the ball resulting in Howard being booed by the crowd and his friends in the stands.
Meanwhile Sheldon is taking Amy on dates to meet his contractual obligation under The Relationship Agreement to make up the ones he missed while on his train trip. Penny and Leonard join them on a double date at a pub and are baffled when Sheldon says his relationship with Amy is stronger than theirs. Sheldon explains they scored an 8.2 out of 10 on a scientific test used to measure a couple's compatibility. Leonard also wants to take the test with Penny but she refuses. Penny reveals she is frightened that she and Leonard have nothing in common even though they are engaged. Leonard admits he shares this fear but says it only strengthens his resolve that they can face it together. Amy apologizes for comparing relationships and says it would make her really happy if Sheldon said romantic things like that to her. Sheldon reiterates that she is already happy because of their test score.
Recurring character: Michael Massimino as himself
Title reference: Howard not being athletic enough to deliver a sufficient first pitch at the baseball game.
